Blockchain and the Evolution of Communication Technology

As a part of my Master’s Thesis in 1996, I wrote about the evolution of communication technology and how it relates to social structure. The thesis is that as communication technology evolves, allowing increased communication between human, that the need for controlling structure decreases. (Note: The word “meme” has taken on a different meaning since it was coined in 1991 by Richard Dawkins. 2 Please visit this reference to read deeper.)

When I wrote this, it was before I had access to the Internet. I had a second generation Apple Macintosh that I bought in 1985 (right after we learned why “1984 will not be like 1984”). It did not have a hard drive or a connection to the Internet. It wasn’t until 1996, after I graduated with my Master’s Degree that I bought a PC (with a 1 GB hard drive) and could access the Internet. Until then, I had read about it, but had not experienced it.

I believed the Internet could be the final evolution in the “Memes to Carry Memes,” that could bring remove the need for “external authorities,” and allow humanity to live from an internal authority. However, instead the Internet saw the rise of many corporate Internet giants. On one hand, I appreciate the Internet giants. There are many benefit we have gained from their R&D, and we will continue to do so. But there is a frightening amount of power and control that these Internet giants seem to have. This is an opinion of mine that can be investigated by proper and thorough unbiased research. See the “ Join Our Team” page if you are interested in conduction such research.

The Internet gave us so much, but something was still missing. In 2008, “blockchain technology made its public debut” 3 as a way to record “important information in a public space and doesn’t allow anyone to remove it,” according to and article in Forbes by Marr B. 3 Marr says in his article, “into one of today’s biggest ground-breaking technologies with potential to impact every industry from financial to manufacturing to educational institutions.” 3

After studying more and learning about blockchain, I realize the Magnitude of Blockchain’s Potential. “This is it!” I realized. This could be the final technological evolution in communication technology to … a meme to store memes, that can free humanity. Only time will tell if this will really come to be. A flexible bias-free voting platform using blockchain technology can be an important part of that evolution. That is the purpose of this project.
